There is nothing that helps bring in the spirit of Christmas more than music. It’s the backdrop to our memories of Christmas past and gives us hope for the Christmas future. We all know the words to “Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer”, “The Little Drummer Boy” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”. But every now and then we have to update these classics with contemporary breaks, melodies and enjoy them with the current beats of today. Hip-Hop, Pop, Trap, Rap! We have to keep today’s music flowing and bring the old school Christmas classics along.
That’s probably why popular youtuber @KingofWeird got a crew together to produce a video that with Santa and his slick Elveszzzz dancing and doing the Harlem Shake into a hip hop version of “Here Comes Santa Claus”. After spending all year making all those toys Elves gotta let loose, too. They bring down the house with their moves as they JuJu on that Beat to Jingle Bells. These are definitely not the type of elves that spend their time sitting on a boring shelf.
We just can’t have a music-filled Christmas without the Queen of Christmas Carols, herself, the legendary Mariah Carey. Almost 20 years ago, the mega-star took penned the classic “All I Want for Christmas” and not only made Christmas fun again but made Christmas even more hip. Mariah’s video of her enjoying the winter snow made us all want to put our snow boots on and join in the fun. This song still mesmerizes us to this day as it continues to stand the test of time. Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas” has recently climbed to the top of Billboard’s Top 10 in All-time classics. Mariah graciously accepted her honor, stating “As a songwriter, I feel so honored to have this song reach Billboard’s [Hot 100] top 10… It truly warms my heart, and I am proud of this song that I wrote basically as a kid on my little Casio keyboard.” We love it too Mariah, we love it too.
Now, since imitation is the best form of flattery, it’s no surprise that Mariah’s song was taken and converted into a trap music version. With over 2.5 million views on YouTube a lot of fans of are definitely feeling this track. It keeps the same melody but the beat drops hard and it even gives us a little Jay-Z and Rhianna in the mix. So, here we get the best of both worlds, Mariah mixed in with a little “Hova” flava.
As if Jay-Z and Rhianna isnt’t enough pep for Christmas, imagine stomping to the beats of Lil Jon Jingle Bells-style, calling out everybody with his anthem “Turn Down for What”. Keeping still is not an option, because this version of Jingle Bells is sure to keep the party going and spirit of Christmas flowin’. It’s a forty-one minute crunk-fest that will have you cranking up the volume and dancing with everyone under that mistletoe. It’s all about the turn-up with this music mix for a Trap Christmas.
In 1970, Michael Jackson brought in Christmas cheer with his rendition of the song “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”. There is a trap remix that samples Michael’s version, takes it up a notch and puts it on steroids and we can’t help but “JuJu” “Dab” and “Twerk” to it. As one of the comments said, “Santa Claus is coming to town with some extra bass in his step”.
This isn’t going to make the Christmas party lit, it going to put the house on fire.
So this Christmas, there is no need for anyone to be sitting around moping, because Christmas is all about counting our blessings and these hip-hop Christmas songs are sure to help remind us that we all need to have a Merry Christmas time.
